The Nashville Ballet
Formally incorporated as an organization in 1986, the Nashville Ballet is one of leading dance institutions in Tennessee. The foundations to create the company were laid back in 1974, when a small group of professional dancers opened their own dance studio named Dancers Studio. A group of six teenage dancers formed their own concert group named the Young Dancers in 1981 and started creating their owned productions. After several successful runs, this dance group created the Nashville Ballet with Dane LaFontsee as its first artistic director.
Over the years the company has grown to become the largest ballet company in the state. With a repertory that consists of famous presentations namely A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Alice in Wonderland, Dracula, Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, Robin Hood, Peter Pan, Macbeth, Messiah and Equinox, amongst countless others, the Nashville Ballet is amongst America’s acclaimed ballet institutions. This holiday season, the ballet company brings yet another edition of its Nutcracker show.
Recreating the magic that was composed by the legendary Pyotr IIyich Tchaikovsky, the magical presentation will bring to stage the story that was written by E.T.A. Hoffman, the Nutcracker and the Mouse King, back in 1892. The Nutcracker presents a two act show that begins on the eve of Christmas at a German family’s house. While the Stahlbaum’s are rejoicing with their friends and family, the Stahlbaum children, Fritz and Clara are anxiously waiting for their godfather to bring their Christmas presents. Their godfather, Drosselmeyer, who is a skilled toy maker gives Clara a life size wooden Nutcracker. She is absolutely delighted with her present and as the guests begin to leave and everyone goes to sleep, little Clara too gets drowsy with the Nutcracker in her arms. As midnight approaches, Clara is taken into a magical world, where she sees mice everywhere and her wooden Nutcracker transforming into a Prince. Together she and him, journey throughout a whole new world where magical creatures meet and greet them both. Accompany Clara and the Nutcracker on this exciting adventure as Nashville Ballet teleports you into another world.
