The musical first premiered at the 5th Avenue Theater form the 7th to the 31st of July, 2011. It was a huge success and plans were put into motion to bring the show to Broadway. Featuring an enchanting story line, loveable characters and simply wonderful music, this musical has all the elements required for it to be a huge commercial hit on Broadway.
The musical is set in an exotic far away land in the fictional Kingdom of Agrabah. The Sultans Grand Vizier Jafar is trying to take the kingdom for himself, but for that he needs to find a long lost magic lamp which he knows to be buried in the fabled Cave of Wonders. But Jafar cannot access the cave himself, for he is unworthy.
He needs to find a substitute, a "diamond in the rough", an ordinary person with a pure heart. Enter Aladdin, a street urchin, who has to steal food to survive. In a twist of fate, Aladdin meets the princess of Agrabah, Jasmine in the market place and he falls head over heels in love with her. But before anything can happen Aladdin is captured for stealing food and sent to the Palace dungeons.
Jafar meets him there under disguise and sends Aladdin to the cave of wonders to recover the lamp. At great peril to his life, Aladdin recovers the lamp and in return gets three wishes from the genie of the lamp. The rest of the story revolves around how Jafars evil plot unfolds and how Aladdin has to muster up the courage to save the city from Jafar while trying to win Jasmines heart.
