Based in Oakland, California, the Oakland Athletics is a professional baseball franchise that plays for the Western Division of Major League Baseball's American League. To date, the team has won nine World Series titles, fifteen AL Pennants, fifteen West Division titles and one Wild card berth.
Origin
The baseball team was initially formed as the Philadelphia Athletics in 1901. Between 1910 and 1913, the team gained tremendous success by winning three out of the four World Series in Philadelphia. The notable players included Chief Bender, Jimmie Foxx, Frank "Home Run" Baker and Lefty Grove who had also been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
In 1955, the team moved to Kansas and changed its name to the Kansas City Athletics. During its time in the Kansas City, the team could not make an impact on the audience through its games. Hence, the franchise shifted to Oakland in 1968. Here, the team won three back-to-back World Series Championships from 1972 to 1974. It also won three pennants in a row as well as the 1989 World Series. However, the team has never appeared in the World Series since 1990.
Home Field
Since 1968, the Oakland Athletics team has been playing its home games at the O.co Coliseum. You would love to watch the baseball game at this venue mainly due to clean amenities and courteous staff. To top this off, the seats are pretty cool and offer great view of the game. Some people might think that it is an old outdated stadium but you get to feel the rich history of the facility every time you go there for a game. You can also stand on the concourse to get closer to the action packed performance of the players which makes up for a great baseball experience.
