From Kansas City to New Jersey
The ice-hockey team ‘New Jersey Devils’ was formed in 1974 in Kansas City, Missouri. Back then it was known as the Kansas City Scouts. After two seasons of their formation, the team moved to Denver, Colorado and renamed itself as the Colorado Rockies. In 1982, the franchise finally moved to New Jersey and became what it is today. The New Jersey Devils are now a professional hockey team based out of Newark. The team had little luck in its early years. Although they improved after relocation to New Jersey, they could never break into the top three spots in their division. Between 1988 and 2013, the Devils have only been able to reach the playoffs for four times. Since the current president and general Lou Lamoriello joined the team, however, New Jersey Devils have improved remarkably. They took thirteen berths in a row from 1997 to 2010. Every year from 1992 to 2010, the Devils also finished with a winning record. They have also made it to the Stanely Cup Finals five times, winning three out of them which is the second highest number since 1990.
Although recently they have been seen to work more on the offensive style in their play, the New Jersey Devils are most renowned for their defensive approach to game. Also, since the creation of Division in 1993, the New Jersey Devils have also won the Atlantic Division season title nine times, the last one in the 09-10 season. Since Nets have moved to Brooklyn, Devils are the only major professional sports team that represents itself as a New Jersey franchise.
Present and Future Expectations
Even before the 2013 season gave such unexpected and unpredictable results, tone thing was certain, New Jersey Devils had to face much competition in their National Hockey League matches. The defense lineup was most prone, but the efforts and hard work of the team showed on the field as the players were able to perform as strongly on the offense as the defense. This year once again, despite the veteran depth that exists on the paper for the team, several forwards stand a chance to make it into the NHL.
