The franchise of the Atlanta Falcons was founded only after the establishment of a football facility in the city. A request was placed for the foundation of the new franchise in the now defunct American Football League as well as the National Football League. A few local businessmen were able to get an AFL franchise deal in June 1965. This triggered a hasty response from the NFL as well and they too awarded the city a franchise. After much deliberation, the business opted for the NFL deal. Finally in 1966, the franchise was founded by the name of Atlanta Falcons.
The franchise is currently owned by Arthur Black who owns 90 % of the shares of the team and is also the current CEO of the team. After the establishment of the franchise, the team used to play its home games in the Atlanta Stadium. After some ten years, the Fulton County Stadium became the new home of the Falcons. Finally, in 1991 the team moved to the Georgia Dome which remains its home arena to date. All of these stadiums have witnessed the great moments in the history of the franchise. The team has managed to gather plenty of victories on the field of these stadiums and made their fans proud on several occasions. In 1980, the team won its first NFC West Division Championship. This victory was followed by a long wait before the team finally got its second NFC West Division Championship title victory in 1998. This was the year when the team grabbed hold of the first NFC Conference Championship trophy as well.
