Ducks went on to win beat Coyotes in the conference semifinals but were swept off by Red Wings in the next round. Things didn’t go according to the script afterwards and Ducks made just one appearance in the playoffs during the next five years. That changed by the time 2002-2003 campaign rolled in. The team went on to record their best ever season in terms of the number of games won and dominating the playoffs. Red Wings were swept in the quarterfinals while the Stars were beaten 4-2 in the semis. They were up against the Minnesota Wild in the conference finals and thumped them 4-0 to lift their first ever conference title.

The Stanley Cup Comes to Anaheim

The franchise blew a little hot and cold for the next few seasons but things were about to change. The name of the team was changed to Anaheim Ducks in the year 2006 and the season after that turned out to be monumental as well. Ducks posted a 48-20-0 record over the course of the 2006-2007 regular season to win their first division title. Ducks took down Wild, Canucks and Red Wings on their way to lifting the conference championship. Ducks were up against Ottawa Senators in the finals and proceeded to defeat them by four games to one to win the Stanley Cup for the first time.

Post Stanley Cup

Anaheim Ducks didn’t have the best of times after that with only three playoff appearances to show for in the next five years. Things began to fall in place once again during the last season as Ducks went on to get their hands on a second division title. That has given everyone associated with the team renewed hope.
