The Band Perry comprises three siblings: Kimberly Perry, who performs lead vocals and plays the guitar and piano, Reid Perry, who is the bassist and provides background vocals and Neil Perry who plays the drums, mandolin, accordion and also provides background vocals.
Kimberley Perry was already in a band as a teenager, and her brothers Reid and Neil were working as roadies for her group. But after a bit, the ten and eight year old started opening for their sister’s band. The next step was obvious, as the trio got together to form their own band, naming it The Band Perry. The newly formed group joined the innovative tour, New Faces of Country, in 2005 in an attempt to further their musical careers.
The band was spotted by country legend Garth Brook’s manager Bob Doyle, who took the trio under his wing and helped them with their recordings. The demos were sent to the newly established Republic Nashville recording label, which signed the group in August 2009.
Following their record deal, the band went on to release their debut single Hip to My Heart in August 2009. The song was co-written with country songwriter Brett Beavers, and reached number twenty on the Billboard Country chart. Their second single If I Die Young was a huge hit, giving the band their first number one single on the country charts. The song also broke into the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at number fourteen.
Both the songs were included in the trio’s eponymous debut album which became a country sensation, reaching the second spot on the country charts and peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 chart. The album’s third single You Lie was also a hit and reached the number two spot on the country charts. The fourth single All Your Life gave the band their second number one hit on the country charts. The album has been certified platinum in the US and Canada, while the single, If I Die Young from, the album, has been certified four times platinum.
Following the success of their debut album, the band wanted to come back even stronger with their second effort. Legendary super-producer Rick Rubin was hired to produce the album, so expectations were high from the band.
"Pioneer" was released on April 2, 2013. The album received generally positive reviews from critics and became the bands first number one album in the country charts. It peaked at the second spot on the Billboard 200 chart and was able to reach number three in the Canadian charts.
The album spawned the successful singles Better Dig Two, Done and Don’t Let Me Be Lonely. The first single Better Dig Two was a major country hit and gave the band their third number one hit on the charts. The second single Done received a lot of radio play and reached number one of the Country Airplay chart in August 2013.
The band has received numerous awards and accolades for their work, including Grammy Award nominations for Best Country Song (If I Die Young) and Best New Artist. They have won two Academy of Country Music Awards, two CMT Awards and three Country Music Association Awards amongst a host of nominations.
