Beginnings and Montrose
Fascinated by the rich musical landscape of Southern California, Sammy Hagar immersed himself into the music from a very young age. He decided to make his fascination a vocation and formed the very first band Fabulous Castilles. From time to time Hagar either fronted or served as a guitarist in the bands like Johnny Fortune, Big Bang and Justice Brothers. He joined Montrose in 1973 and experienced his first major breakthrough with the hit Bad Motor Scooter. Hagar left the band after releasing their second album to pursue a solo career.
Hagar experienced mainstream success in the mid-70s and 80s with the release of several hit albums. During the initial time as a solo musician, moderately successful albums like Nine on a Ten Scale and Street Machine helped in establishing his style. The smash single Red made him known as “The Red Rocker”. Hagar enjoyed pervasive fame with his megahit records Standing Hampton and Three Lock Box. Popular singles such as Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy and Give to Live added to his repute and made him a successful international artist.
Ventures with Van Halen
During the 80s, Hagar was recognized as a top-notch musician and he replaced Van Halen's front-man David Lee Roth after his departure from the band. Entering into a musical venture with the band in 1985, Hagar produced four multi-platinum and chart-topping records namely 5150, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, Balance and OU812. This successful endeavor came to an end in 1996 and Hagar once again went on to practice his solo career and also formed the band Wabos in 1997. Van Halen and Hagar reunited in 2003 with the release of Best of Both Worlds and toured major parts of the country.
Wabos and Chickenfoot
The relationship between Hagar and Wabos remained stronger even in the peak of his solo career and they released many successful albums together. The band came back with a bang in 2006 and released Livin' It Up!. In 2008 another collaborative album titled Cosmic Universal Fashion was released and Hagar performed a number of shows with the band. In 2008, Hagar founded a band which he called the “Super Group”, named Chickenfoot. The band released their debut self-titled album in 2009 which entered the Billboard chart and peaked at number four. The second album III came out in 2011 which was followed up by a string of successful shows
