Born and raised in Lyonshall, England, Elena Jane Goulding belongs to a Jewish family. She was inclined towards music since a very young age. She took up the clarinet when she was only nine years old. Few years later she learned to play the guitar and soon after discovered her talent for songwriting as well.
Although she got herself enrolled to study politics and drama at the university, she kept herself engaged in music activities and competitions as well. It was during her university days that she became more familiar with electronic music. Blessed with a natural talent and the zeal to pursue it further, Ellie decided to take a year off from studies to try her luck in music professionally. During this year, she collaborated with electronic music artists like Frankmusik and Starship. She relocated to London and released her songs online; Under the Streets being the first. Soon she became a well-known music name among web users.
Although music critics had already recognized Ellie Gouldings potential as a vocalist and named her a rising star, it was with her first studio album Lights that she carved her niche in the industry. The record was released in March of 2010 and within no time it topped the charts in the singers home country. With tracks like Guns and Horses and Starry Eyed, the collection sold a whopping 1.6 million copies around the world.
A few months later, Lights was re-released as Bright Lights with six additional singles including the cover of Elton Johns Your Song. The lead single Lights went on to become the singers most successful single both in the US and UK. In support of Lights, Ellie Goulding performed her first official live music tour in 2010 and 2011. Her concerts were sold out in advance and she was much appreciated at numerous festivals across various cities.
Latest album and Current Tour
Apart from performances at festivals and other events, Ellie Goulding worked throughout 2011 on her second album Halcyon. The collection came out in October 2012. With hits like Figure 8, Explosions and Anything Could Happen, the album not only took the music lovers by storm but also won the admiration of the critics.
Like her debut album Lights, Goulding decided to launch an expanded version of her new record by the name of The Halcyon Days. The lead song of this re-issued collection is Burn. It received a tremendous response and became her first number one track on the UK Singles Chart. Ellie Goulding is all geared up for the promotion of her new material in the US. She will be making stops in several cities and her fans in the country are anxiously awaiting her arrival.
