Andre Rieu, born and raised in a Christian family of Maastricht was into music from very early age. He was almost five years old when he started learning violin. His dramatic stage performances and superstar like attitude already set him apart from his contemporaries. This was the time when he initiated Johann Strauss Orchestra and his own production company.
While playing his 1667 Stradivarius violin He officially linked his name to the revival of Waltz music. This was a relatively larger ensemble than the Maastricht Salon Orchestra. The Orchestra had a classical name with the aim to recreate the spirit and compassion of the nineteenth century appearances of Strauss. Rieu just like Johann Strauss and his brothers conducted the orchestra while playing the violin. His bow, instrument and body language served as a direction of the beat with Rieu metaphorically swaying along the rhythm. The Strauss Orchestra basically focuses on the music of Strauss with occasional display of other compositions like light music and operetta.
