Jerome's ending of the musical was a bit different from that of Barrie. Barrie's version had Peter allowing Wendy and other children to return back to their land, but Jerome changed it by adding another scene which Barrie wrote later on. In Jerome's musical, Peter returns to Wendy's land after the lapse of many years and discovers Wendy as an adult woman and a mother of a girl. Although Peter wanted to take Wendy back to Never Never Land but when Jane, Wendy's daughter offered to accompany him, Peter couldn't resist and took her along.
Peter Pan musical hit the New York's Winter Garden Theatre in 1954 with the limited score of 152 performances. However the revised performances by Martin and Richard brought Peter Pan to escalating heights and thus winning Tony Awards too. Later on as the musical was sold to NBC, television productions were also planned and broadcasted but the theatrical charm still remained intact as Broadway matured with time.
With the nominations for Best Actress Tony and the show being categorized for Best Revival of the Musical, 1979 marked the rebirth of the musical on Broadway thus giving 554 performances. 1990, 1991, 1998 and 1999 also marked the successful Broadway production years with Jack Noseworthy being the single male who performed the role of Peter Pan on Broadway.
