R&B Soul Tickets
Gospel music has inspired many genres of music. The amalgam of serene rhythm and blues and
graceful gospel music forms the soul music. This genre of music has its roots deep in the diverse
American culture. Rhythm and Blues, the genre of African American music, is more than just
Music. It is an ideology, the ideology that has stringed the African American people. The intense
beat of Rhythm and Blues, catchy poetry, auto body moves, background claps in tuned with
soul music, along with funk and punk diversity has made it very popular in America lately. Soul
and R & B music explicitly represents the American African culture and becomes a torchbearer of the rise of popularity and harmony for American African people.
The term Rhythm And Blues was coined by the Billboard's music journalist Jerry Wexler in 1948. R&B was initially called as the race music and people started calling as 'music by American Africans made for American Africans'. Later in 1960s, R&B tuned down with gospel music and formed the genre of Soul music. Although a lot of R&B and Soul music fans are American African but this genre of music has seeped through all of America and Europe and is now associated more with the teens and youngsters of all races. The instruments used in R&B include bass, guitars, piano, sax and drums. Both soul and R&B music is more focused on the music than the lyrics but we have seen some really moving lyrics in the past few years also.
The serious lyrics and involvement of the singer in the R&B songs creates a hypnotic effect. And the extemporaneous of the band and their formal dressing introduced the civilized gentlemanly image of the R&B singer. The history of Rhythm and Blues is linked with the migration of American African people to the urban states of New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Detroit in 1930s. RCA Records became the first company to market and release the R&B albums in 1948. During that time, the boogie woogie rhythm was introduced, which gained instant popularity. Louis Jordan, Billy Wright, Roy Brown Big Joe Turner, Sonny Thompson and Wynonie Harris, produced the most memorable and famous R&B and soul music of late 40s.
The decade of 50s and 60s is considered as the glorious period of R&B and soul. Johnny Otis, Little Richard, Aretha Franklin, Ruth Brown, Percy Sledge, Bo Diddley are some of the famous singers of 50s. And the massive hit R&B numbers like "Long Tall Sally", "Teardrops from my eyes", "What a Dream", "Crying in the Chapel", "I Got A Woman", "When A Man Loves A Woman" etc remind us of the unmatched potential of R&B music. Especially the beat, lyrics and success of "Long Tall Sally" is exceptional, many songs and compositions have been inspired by it. In later years, rock and roll and hip hop culture affected the R&B and soul music and many artists produced some successful albums and chart topping numbers.
Fusion of R&B and soul music with electronic music widened the scope of this genre. During the 80s, soul artist realized that they need to fuse drums and electronic music machines in order to make bigger hits. And the successful experiments heavily influenced the music of that decade and brought many sensational and talented artists forward. Soul and R&B singers like Janet Jackson, Babyface, Alexandra O'Neal, Bobby Brown, Whitney Huston, The SOS Bands and Anita Baker were discovered and/or got popular in the 80s. Sub genres of Soul music i.e. deep Soul and Southern Soul, Detroit Soul, Philadelphia Soul, Chicago soul etc further reveal the influence of R&B and Soul in the music industry.
