On the other hand, a festival is usually a celebration of different religious or local events, which mainly involves food, beer, music, fun rides and the get-together of family and friends. Its history goes back to the history of religions. According to most of the religions, a feast is bunch of celebrations to honor God or gods. For example, Christians have two major feasts; one is celebrated in winter, known as Christmas (the Feast of the Nativity of Jesus Christ). The other festival is celebrated in spring, known as Easter (the Feast of the Resurrection). In older times, Egyptians used to celebrate the seasonal heavy flow of water by the River Nile as it used to provide irrigation for the lands. So, the sole reason behind celebrating these seasons was that they were considered to bring food with them. But nowadays, seasonal fairs and festivals are usually celebrated, just for the sake of enjoying new season and food. Whereas, the religious festivals are celebrated according to the directions by that particular religion. These are also celebrated once in a calendar year, depending upon the lunar cycles. Although, majority of the population in the US are Christians but people from various other religions like Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism etc are also an important part of the country and that's why the range of religious fairs and festivals is quite big.
