According to the famous dance dancer Jacques d'Amboise; ""Dance is your pulse, your heartbeat, your breathing. It's the rhythm of your life. It's the expression in time and movement, in happiness, joy, sadness and envy." Dance has always been termed as one of the main way of expressing one's emotions. Whether it is happiness, sorrow, fear or hope; dance always helps to bring it out of you and hence, it has become an essential part of our lives. Sometimes, it is also used as a medium of conveying a story or a social message. Dance is such a beautiful form of art, in which rhythmic movement of a body along with a particular set of emotions via choreography have the ability to cast a spell on you so that you find it difficult to stop from dancing!
The history of dance is as long as the history of human race. Therefore, it is difficult to comprehend the origin of dance, as it has always been a part of festivals, ceremonies, rituals and entertainment. At some places, it was used to pass stories, whereas in others, it was used for healing purposes. So, basically there were two categories of dancing; social dancing and religious dancing. Social dance includes dances of celebration or entertainment, which unites people together. Religious dancing is used to please gods so that they could help them to overcome any problem. They were mainly performed by the Africans who still follow it. Some war dances were also performed to keep up the zest and thrill so that they can conquer their enemies.

Later, dances were categorized into solo dance, group dance, partner dance, ceremonial dance, performance dance, social dance and several others. Music became an integral part of dancing and hence, on the basis of music genres, various other dance forms were also introduced. The most famous ones are waltz, tango, salsa, hip-hop, jazz, twist and dance. The integration of music into dance made it famous amongst the common man as well. If people used to think that only a particular group of artists could dance then those norms were broken and dance became a part of everyone's lives. During the early 1900, dance studies were also introduced and many major universities started offering Bachelors to Postdoctoral research degrees on dances as well.

Another main aspect of dance is the dancers or choreographers. These are the people who are trained professionally in different forms of dance and they perform at live events to entertain people. According to George Balanchine, "Dancers are instruments, like a piano the choreographer plays". They were taught dancing as a part of communication and they express their thoughts via movement of their bodies. They are so much trained that every rhythmic movement and vibration of their body explains a different emotion. That's why; dancing is always considered to be a very healthy phenomenon amongst people and is the best way to lose weight.

Currently, various forms of innovation and creativity has been introduced in dance styles, which are now termed as "Modern dance". People like Loie Fuller, Alvin Ailey, Ruth St Denis, Doris Humphery and Katherine Dunham from the US and Mary Wigman, Rudolf von Laban and Francois Delsarte from Europe have brought a lot of new techniques in dance. Therefore, a new whole list of dance forms have been introduced like rock and roll, rumba, break dance, disco and Bhangra. With the emergence of media, dance competitions were also introduced. The popularity of "So You Think You Can Dance", "Dancing with the Stars" and "Strictly Come Dancing" is the shining example of its success. On the other hand, various dance live events also became popular such as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Shen Wei Dance Arts, Dance Escape, Winter Dance Party, Danish Dance Theater, Nalmes Folk Dance Spectacular etc.

Dance has become an integral part of our lives. Whether we are happy or sad, dance can help us to release our emotions, which otherwise become quite difficult. It is healthy and it helps you become a happy person ultimately.
