Cricket, one of the most loved games having the craziest fans ever, is an extremely famous sport all over the world. A game of luck as well as talent and tactics is played between two teams, with eleven players in each team. The exact origin of the game is not known, but it originated somewhere in the northern side of Europe in the 16th century. No one knows how the game was developed, for instance the rules of the game etc but according to evidence found, the game was probably devised by children and remained a game for children for many decades. It was adopted by adults in the early 17th century. A century later, it was being played at the international level. The first international match was played between the teams of Canada and America in 1844.

The name 'cricket' was derived from the Middle Dutch (crik ket) which means 'with the stick chase'. The game is played between two opposing teams. Each team has 11 players, including one wicket keeper and the rest are batsmen and bowlers. The number of bowlers and batsmen is flexible and varies from team to team. However, there are four to five specialized batsmen and bowlers in a team and each team is headed by a captain. The game is played on a grassy ground with a radius of 225 -250 feet. In the middle of the ground is situated a rectangular 20 square meter rough part called the pitch, this is where the actual game takes place. Two players from the batting team remain on the pitch while all the players of the other team field. Each team gets a chance to bat and bowl. The toss decides which team would bat/bowl first. The team with more runs wins.

There are three major types of cricket matches which are popular today. One day matches which last for approximately six hours, test matches which last for 4-5 days and T20 matches that last for around 3 hours. One day matches are more popular among audiences and are more frequently played. The most famous and exciting cricket tournament is the World Cup which is organized every four years by the International Cricket Council, the governing body. Teams from all over the world participate in this international competition. The cricket World cup is the 4th largest and the most viewed tournament of the world. Other international cricket tournaments are held regularly throughout the year. The number of participant countries vary from two to five, or even eight sometimes.

Awards are allocated for each match and for each tournament. The player who plays best gets the 'Man of the match' award. A Man of the match can be from the winning or the losing team. Other awards include man of the tournament, best bowler, fastest century and many others. A short ceremony is held after every match in which the teams and the individuals are being awarded for their performances and the winning team gets the trophy. Australia is considered to have the best cricket team with four world cup trophies. No other team broke the record as yet. Other dominant teams include South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, England, Pakistan and New Zealand.
