Each year, an extensive list of races are planned which is more than what could make the day of any crazy racing freak. It may not be understandable for some to understand the charm racing holds for some of us. You have to have the experience of riding in a fast car or bike to know what it is really like to feel the wind in your hair. Watching it all on the television is not the same as being in the stadium, experiencing it all first hand, being in the moment, and taking in the essence. Auto racing is also referred to as motor racing and is equally popular amongst people of all ages, especially teenagers and sports enthusiasts. There was a time when there were only a handful of races were held during a year. Now-a-days the racing reason begins but does not end, such is the popularity of this sports!
Car racing initially began as a way of testing the cars and their endurance level. Since these races were not exactly races, in the true sense of the word, they were referred to as the reliability runs. The earliest recorded test runs took place more than a century ago, i.e. in 1894, in Europe. France, during the late eighteenth century, dominated the European motor industry. The initial races which were held were stretched to days. In 1895, a race was held where drivers drove their motors from Paris all the way to Bordeaux and then back to Paris again. By the nineteenth century though, the racing event shrunk to being only a day long and obviously, there was no racing track available either so the racers had to compete on the existing roads. Today, the most popular race definitely are the supersonic, lightning fast Formula 1 races which we all can't seem to have enough of.
It is a widely accepted fact that racing is, by no means, a lady's job because it requires immense physical strength that is not a very womanly trait. Still, many women have tried living their lives on the fast track. The prime example is the fantastic, luscious sassy French driver Helen Delangle! She was one of the most accomplished Grand Prix female drivers who brought colors to the racing track. Eliska Junkova was another female driver who was even more talented than Delangle. Junek, who changed her name after her marriage had the honor of driving the Bugatti cars! That's huge! Women even made it to the Formula 1 car races when Maria Teresa de Filippis, one of the only five women to ever take part in Formula 1, competed alongside the men. Other than that, racing has been pretty much a man's game.
The biggest racing competition today is the Formula One World Championship and when it comes to the stock car racing the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing aka NASCAR is the biggest in the whole of the USA. The F1 Grand Prix alongside Free Style Motorscross races are also becoming very popular with every passing day. The National Hot Rod Association or NHRA is not far behind and is catching up. If Monster Truck Racing also shifts a gear, it will too be in the running for some of the most popular racing events of the year.
